The lace
The lace is the last thing that goes on.
It's chosen piece by piece, then stitched flat along its whole length rather than tacked at the ends — which is what keeps it sitting down instead of lifting at the corners. No two lengths lie quite the same way.

Slim enough to forget you're carrying it.
The lace sits flat along the fold, so the wallet stays as thin closed as it was empty. It takes the cards you actually use and not much else — that's the trade for how flat it sits.

Soft leather, lined, with a lace trim stitched along the fold. The lace is chosen for each piece rather than bought by the roll, so it varies slightly from wallet to wallet.
